A Day in our Life

Our daily routine seems pretty predictable, so I wanted to document it before we welcome baby #3 and we are all over the place again. Collins is 4, Brooks is 2.5 and I'm 30 weeks pregnant. This is a non preschool or sport day and Derek had a very laid back, work from home day.

4:40am- I hear Brooks say something but then he's back asleep.  I need to pee but I've already been once in the night so I'm going to be lazy and hold it till morning.

6:27am- I hear Brooks again and pray he stays quiet till his clock turns green at 6:50.  He does even though neither one of us fall back asleep.

6:50am- His clock turns green and I hear him open his door and loudly walk into our room.  He jumps into bed with us and cuddles for about 10 min till I can't hold my pee any longer.  Him and I head downstairs and Collins' and Derek come down about 10 minutes later.  We all need a little time to wake up so the kids watch Youtube on phones while me and Derek drink coffee.

7:30am- I head upstairs to get cleaned up for MOPS.  I showered the night before so that saves me some time.  Derek feeds the kids breakfast; Collins has powdered donuts, strawberries and chocolate milk and Brooks has a couple bites of French toast, strawberries and yogurt milk. Derek also unloads the dishwasher.  They all come upstairs after they eat and Derek gets Brooks dressed and his teeth brushed.  I get Collins dressed (to match me. Yay!), teeth brushed and hair done.  I do Brooks hair and then they play/fight in their rooms till it's time to head out.

8:30am- We are out the door for MOPS.  It's not the most convenient MOPS for us but I started going 3 years ago and have met some great woman, so I'd hate to switch.

9am-11:15am- MOPS!!! The kids go into their different classrooms and are excited to play with their friends and I enjoy two, wonderful hours without my kids; talking to other moms, eating an amazing breakfast, snuggling my niece, Lucy and listening to our speakers. We can't leave MOPS without the kids getting to see cousin "Wucy."

11:50am- We get home from MOPS and Derek isn't quite back with lunch. He called and said that he really wanted BBQ and offered to pick some up for the kids too.  I'm stuffed from MOPS so I tell him to get the kids a hot dog so I don't have to make lunch. The kids ride their bikes in the driveway until he gets home.

12:10pm- They all eat lunch and I sit at the table with them and we all talk about our morning.  Brooks doesn't eat much lunch and Derek mentions that he didn't eat hardly any breakfast either.  I pray he isn't getting sick.  He's pretty grumpy so I take him up and lay him down for nap.  Collins gets her piece of candy for eating most of her lunch.  I clean up lunch, load the dishwasher and then me and Collins lay on the couch for about an hour.  I've given up having her have quiet time in her room.

1:45pm- I decide I should probably get her off  Youtube kids now.  We play candy land and a couple rounds of the matching game.  She starts playing with her babies so I work on a blog post for the Kansas City Moms Blog. I've been working with them to promote the new birthing center that I will be delivering at.

2:30pm- Brooks finally wakes up and is in a good mood.  I get them some cheez-its and water and we head outside to play in the driveway.  Brooks got a new bike the day before so he wants to go on a walk and ride it.  I'm hesitant that he can make it very far but he proves me wrong and they both ride their bikes to the park/basketball court.  They play a little at the park but mostly want to play red light green light on their bikes.  Derek is done with a conference call and meets us at the park.

4pm- Derek needs a couple things from Wal-Mart so we all walk home and the kids start helping me make meatloaf before I ask Derek to take them to Wal-Mart with him.  I finish the meatloaf and get it in the oven and fold a couple loads of laundry before they get back.

5pm- The kids play with slime and then Collins wants us all to be her students while she's the teacher and reads to us.  I play for a little bit before I have to cook the green beans and scalloped potatoes. Brooks is soon annoying Collins and Collins uses the "I hate phrase" for the first time.  I think it was towards something Brooks did and not him but she gets time out and a "we don't talk like that" talk.  She very rarely gets in trouble so she's in tears and needs some hugs from daddy.

6pm- Dinner is on the table.  This isn't the kids' favorite meal but they do a decent job on the meatloaf and green beans.  I refuse to make them a separate meal so they either eat what we eat or don't eat.  Usually the candy bribe works and they eat what they need to so they can have their treat after dinner.  Me and Derek clean up dinner and since it's still nice out, we go on a walk.   Derek had gotten them suckers at Wal-Mart so Collins decides she'll ride in the double stroller and finish her sucker instead of riding her bike for our walk.

7:15pm- We go on a pretty long walk and I'm exhausted.  The kids get about 10 minutes of phone time before going upstairs to get ready for bed.  I'm sure it seems like they get a lot of phone time but they chose youtube videos over watching TV.  It's my night putting Collins to bed so I get her in pajamas and teeth brushed while Derek does the same with Brooks.  We meet back in Collins room and they each pick a book for us to read.  We say our bedtime prayer together before splitting back up.  Bathroom breaks for both, sing twinkle twinkle little star, sound machines on and then into bed.

7:50pm- Silence!!! Quick clean up and then we  have our snickers Derek picked us up at Wal-Mart and relax while watching TV and being on our phones.

9pm- We head up to bed and continue our TV/phone time.  I'm often asleep by 9:30-9:45 and Derek about 10pm.

A day in our life

The 3 topics that I love to go back through my blog and read are:
1. Weekly pregnancy updates
2. Kids' monthly updates
3. A day in our life

So, I'll have an update on Brooks later this month when he turns 18 months but for now, you get a day in our life.

This was Wednesday, February 3.  Collins is 3 and Brooks is 17 months. Derek works a lot from home and we try not to bother him to much. HA!

7:03am I hear Collins coming out of her room and into ours.  Her clock turns green at 7am so she's got the a-ok.  She snuggles in bed with us for a bit and then I jump in the shower. I need some coffee before I tackle getting ready so the 3 of us head downstairs and Collins makes our coffee.

7:40am Brooks is up.  As soon as he gets a clean diaper and comes downstairs, he points to his highchair and demands breakfast.  They eat some mini muffins and pears and hang out with Derek while I go finish getting ready.  He brings them upstairs when they're done eating and we get them dressed and ready for the day.

8:45am Stephanie and Avery come over for a playdate and Derek goes to workout.  The kiddos play everywhere but the playroom, have a snack and then Steph and Avery head back home.

10:00am I get the bean box out for the kids and Brooks lands himself in time out for the first time because he won't stop throwing beans and toys.  He didn't enjoy it but he actually sat there until his time was up! That activity lasted all of 4 min so we go to the unfinished basement for what I like to call recess! Derek gets home and does some work and I watch the kids ride their bikes-- aka fight over bikes.   We have 5 different bikes down there but they always have to fight over the same one.

Caught him in action

 Time out mister!

11:25am Time to feed the kids.   Today's menu consists of hot dogs, yogurt, veggies straws and grapes.  Derek and I sit and eat lunch with them. They both eat good so they get a couple m&ms. After lunch gets cleaned up, Derek is back to working on his laptop and me and the kids play in the playroom and turn some music on and dance.

12:20 nap time! Collins gets to play on my phone for 10 min while I change Brooks' diaper and get him down for nap.  Then I take her up and get her in bed.  She doesn't usually fall asleep but has to stay in there for an hour until her clock turns green.  She's been pretty grumpy and emotional this morning so I don't give her the option of getting off her bed and playing when her star pillow turns off.  She actually listens and falls asleep.  I catch up on Facebook and Instagram and then I get the meatloaf prepped for dinner.

2:15pm Collins wakes up and Brooks wakes up shortly behind her.  We play for a couple minutes and then I set them up with a snack and leave them with Derek while I go to the gym.  Derek has an unusually slow work day on this day, he doesn't normally take over the kids in the afternoon.  And I very rarely go to the gym.  Cats out of the bag :)

Who knows what they do while I'm gone.  Probably wrestle with daddy and tear the house apart.  I run by the store after the gym to get all the things I forgot on my weekly grocery run.  I swear, mommy brain is a real thing.

Gym music.  I heart T Swift

4:15pm I get home and Derek has the meatloaf going in the oven.  I make the sauce to pour on top of it and get that on there and back in the oven.  Kids are whiny so I let Brooks paint while Collins plays with some stamps.  This is what I like to call the witching hour.  Hurry up dinner!

Strong work

5:30pm My mom makes a surprise visit and we all sit down to eat dinner.  It actually works out perfect that she comes over because we have someone coming over to discuss finishing our basement.  I rotate between talking with the guy and Derek and helping my mom wrangle the kids.
Brooks didn't have a super long nap so he's pretty cranky.

6:30pm Leave Derek to talk basement decisions, mom leaves and I take the kids up for bath and pajamas.

7:15pm Collins gets time on her iPad and sitting with daddy and I take Brooks up to brush his teeth, read a book and go to bed.  Derek's getting Collins her bedtime snack when I come downstairs so we both sit with her while she has a cereal bar.  Since it's Derek's turn to put her to bed, she wants to sit with me after snack and be held super tight so daddy can't take her up to bed.  She had a nap so she gets to stay up a little later and play more on her iPad while we watch TV.

Looking entirely too old

8:00pm Derek takes her up to brush her teeth, read 2 books and bed for her.  I jump in the shower for what I intended to be a quick rinse from the gym but realize too late that I got my hair wet! I had already showered that day (all the moms will understand how upsetting this was)! I'm forced to blow dry my hair when I get out of the shower and then go downstairs to watch TV/get on my phone with Derek.

9:05pm Head up to bed.  Derek watches TV in our room while I mess around on my phone.  I'm usually already asleep by the time Derek turns the TV off about 10 and goes to bed.  And that's our day!

A day in our life

January 7, 2015

1:34am  change and nurse Brooks. He's back asleep before I lay him down and I quickly fall back asleep once my head hits my pillow.

5:55am  Brooks is back up with a dirty diaper. Change him and he eats a little before he's ready to go back asleep. He coughs a little waking him up and he wiggles out of the sleep sack. I go back in and swaddle him and leave. I crawl back in bed and I see on the monitor that his arm is back out. I curse the swaddle and go wrap him up again. He tries to get out again but falls asleep. Me too.

7:00am I just dozed off and I hear Derek get out of bed and in the shower. I go back to sleep and he makes coffee (we're both newly coffee drinkers) and slips out of the house about 7:45am.

7:50am I hear Brooks talking over the monitor. As I walk into his room, I hear Collins. She always requests that "baby brooks" lays in her bed when she wakes up. It lasts all of 2 min. before she's begging to eat. French toast (frozen kind, I'm all about quick in the mornings), peach and milk for her, coffee for me Brooks hangs out in his seat.

8:20am I get the kiddos dressed and then put Brooks in the pack n play in our room and Collins on our bed with some books and cartoons and I take a quick shower. Brooks joins sister on the bed to play while I do my make up and get dressed.

8:50am nurse Brooks and then we head downstairs so they can play in the playroom while I do my hair in the bathroom down there. Brooks is ready for a nap at about 9:30 so I let him sleep in my arms before I have to get him in his car seat.

9:45am get Collins some dry cereal to eat in the car and we are out the door for our weekly play date. I swear we've only been here a few times but I think we went the last time I did a day in the life too. Ha!  We meet at the indoor swing set place which is normally nice and toasty in the winter but the thermostat said 54 today. Yeah, we didn't last long before heading home. Brooks got a little nap in the ergo and Collins got to play with friends so it could have been worse. Not to mention it was in the single digits outside so it felt slightly warmer then being out there.

11:15am My always hungry child has been begging to eat (again) so I make her a pb&j sandwich, pretzels, blueberries and milk. Derek comes home for lunch and we have leftover soup.

11:40am change and nurse Brooks and then back downstairs to play before nap.

12:30pm lay Brooks down in his crib for nap and he's asleep very quickly. I play a little with Collins before she goes down at 12:45.

I should finish the cleaning I started yesterday but the couch is calling my name. I start this post and then Instagram, facebook, shopping etc take my attention till I hear Brooks.

2:40pm longest nap in a long time for Brooks! Collins is up right after him and as always, requests to eat. Cheez it's, fruit snack and water for her while I nurse and then change Brooks. They play and I vacuum and mop the kitchen real quick and then join them to play till daddy gets home at 4:30.

5:00pm lay Brooks in his crib for nap and start making chicken tacos for dinner. Collins helps wash the bottles and has an appetizer of chips and salsa while we are cooking. Brooks takes his normal 40 min. nap and then sits in his rock n play while we eat dinner. Collins eats really good so she's rewarded with a couple skittles (she's on a purple kick and is ecstatic when she gets 2 of them. She's also obsessed with having 2 of things. Easily pleased this girl) and then downstairs to play with daddy and watch tv.

her new "maybe if I close my eyes, I won't have to take these last 2 bites."

6:30 not even an hour since dinner and Collins is hungry again. She won't stop begging if you tell her no so I give her a cereal bar.

7pm bath time! Collins helps me wash Brooks and then Derek takes over washing her while I put lotion and pajamas on Brooks. We all gather in Collins room while she gets lotion and pajamas on. She's hungry again! I attempt to not give in but she throws a fit. Gotta love 2 year olds. I give her a cutie and make Brooks' bedtime bottle. We give him a bottle to ensure he's nice and full for bed and he also gets his probiotic in it.

7:40pm Collins chooses Derek to brush her teeth, read her a book and get her in bed so I feed Brooks his bottle and get him in bed.  Collins comes in 5 times to give us kisses. It's ridiculous how long she stalls at bedtime. Kisses for daddy, mommy, Brooks, Elsie (the dog), going potty, washing her hands, on and on.

8:15pm both kids are asleep and me and Derek watch tv and spend time on our phones.

9pm I pump and then we head to bed to watch tv. I'm exhausted and he has an early morning so the tv is off and we go to sleep at 9:45pm.

A day in our life

I did a day in the life post back in January but I thought I would do it again since Collins was only 1.5 months then and now she is 7.5 months. You can read that post here.

This was Monday, July 2. I had 3 of my 5 daycare kids (all boys who are 1) this day.

4:15am She's been coughing off and on all night but now she is crying. I try to just give her the binky but she isn't having it. I wish this girl would sleep through the night but I feed her, lay her down and fall back asleep myself all in about 20 min.

6:45 my alarm goes off. Waking up before 7am is not my cup of tea so I decide it's a hair in a ponytail kind of day and reset my alarm.

7:10am Alarm goes off again. Collins is still sleeping so I shower and quickly get ready before my daycare kids start arriving around 7:30am. I turn on cartoons for the kids and catch up on instagram and facebook.

7:45am I hear Collins talking through the monitor followed by her banging her binky on her crib. I get it girl, your up. I change her diaper and nurse her before bringing her in the kitchen to help me make breakfast.

8:15 Cereal, banana and milk for the daycare kids. After everyone is cleaned up we head downstairs to play. Collins absolutely loves the daycare kids. She sits on the floor and plays with toys and watches them run around her. Derek comes down and tells us bye before leaving for work.

9:30am Collins is ready for her morning nap. Put her in her sleep sack and hardly get it zipped up before she is rolling over to go to sleep. Quick diaper changes for the boys and then we head outside. I take the video monitor with me so I can keep an eye on Collins.

10:30 Back inside. Boys fight play downstairs and I unload the dishwasher. I remember I haven't ate yet so I grab a peach and some water before heading downstairs.

10:55am Collins wakes up, gets a diaper change and nurses. She's too distracted by the boys so she doesn't eat much. We all play on the floor till I head upstairs to make lunch.

11:25 The boys have hot dogs, apple, peas and carrots and Collins plays in her exersaucer. She doesn't want to be in it so I put a piece of apple in her mesh feeder and she gnaws on that. I eat a leftover brat and cucumbers and onion and have my daily diet coke. I don't drink coffee so I look forward to this pop all morning.

11:45am Boys are done eating and Collins is going to town on a second slice of apple so I decide to do a craft with the boys while she is occupied. We make fireworks courtesy of pinterest.

12:15pm Diaper changes for the boys and then we pick up toys and they get to watch a show before nap. I use this quite time to nurse Collins.

12:45pm boys down for nap so Collins plays on floor in her room while I clean up lunch and let the dogs outside.  I lay on the floor with Collins and she climbs all over me and practices crawling. Derek comes home for a little bit and plays with Collins before going back to work.

1:30pm Collins is ready for her afternoon nap so I change her diaper, put her in her sleep sack and into her crib she goes. I use this time to clean  up lunch if I haven't already and then watch TV, get on the internet and enjoy the peace and quite.

3:15pm The boys start waking up and Collins wakes up soon after. I change her diaper and put her in the exersaucer while I get the boys a snack. After snack we head downstairs for diaper changes and I nurse Collins. Derek gets home around 4pm and takes Collins while he finishes up some work things. I rotate between playing with the boys downstairs and starting dinner. The boys get picked up around 5:15pm.

6:00pm Derek and I eat dinner while Collins sits in her highchair and has some vegetable beef and a sippy of water. When she starts getting fussy, we take turns rolling her highchair back and forth and giving her sweet potato puffs.

6:30pm We head out on our nightly walk. Collins will sometimes take a short nap but she stays awake tonight. Normally we don't take the dogs because they get stinky and aren't the best walkers but we took them and I think they were a distraction to Collins.

7:15pm I have my early daycare kids tomorrow (arrive at 7am) so I shower so I don't have to in the morning and Derek gives Collins a bath and reads her a book. Sometimes we do a bottle for her last feeding but I don't feel like pumping so I nurse her and put her to bed. She's been fighting bedtime lately so after about 5 min. Derek goes in and rubs her back and she falls asleep. By this time it's about 8pm so Derek and I watch TV before I head to bed around 9pm and catch up on blogs. He comes to bed around 9:30pm and we are both asleep by 10pm.
