Midweek Randoms

  • It’s December!!! By far the best month of the year. Our Christmas tree is up and I can’t wait to start putting presents underneath it.

The mantle needs some work. I through it together tonight
  • The daycare is coming along. The twins and I have been spending more time at our house so I can get things put together. Jan 2 will be here before I know it

  • While watching the twins at my house, I forgot to pack bibs for lunch and Gage made a mess. I also forgot extra clothes (nanny fail) so I put him in one of my smallest shirts. He loved it!

  • Thanksgiving recap is still in the works. We hosted our first holiday at our house and had such a great time.

  • My sister and her family are coming again this weekend. YAY!! We are celebrating my nephews 3rd birthday and nieces 2nd (their cousins, not siblings). We will also be having breakfast with Santa and a Chiefs/Bears watch party because we are all Chiefs fans except for my sister and her family who are Bears fans. Amy texted me this yesterday…”I just heard Pax tell his friend, my uncle likes the Chiefs.” Darn right kid. And you should too!

  • The twins fell asleep in the car this morning and after I brought Gage inside, stood him up and went out to get Ian, I walked inside to Gage laying on the floor back asleep. Ian was conked out in my arms so I laid him down for a pic. Must have been tired cause he didn’t flinch when I laid him on the hard floor.

  • Our dog is battling bladder stoneS. Yes, many of them. Poor thing! We are hoping we can get them dissolved and not have to do $800 surgery. She had to have this surgery 4 years ago and I never thought we would have to go through it again!

Precious baby. Can you tell she likes toys?
  • We are still loving the house. Haven’t done any updating but are going to paint a couple rooms after the first of the year.

Our 1st home

We finally got internet on Wednesday so I figured I better get to uploading pictures of the new house! Remember that we just moved in 5 days ago so we haven’t painted anything, updated anything or even finished unpacking everything.
Welcome to our first home! Yes, Derek already has our K-State flag out (thanks mom for the flag)!
024
This is what you see when you walk in the front door. To the left is the living room and straight ahead is our 100 staircases.  Seriously, every house we looked at was a split level. Not my fav but at least in ours, you don’t have to immediately go up or down.

Lets start by going downstairs. Obviously we still need to paint and either get new couches or put slip covers on these ancient couches. The whole basement will be my daycare so I don’t want anything super fancy.
018
Here we are at the bottom of the steps. Still need to mount the TV on the wall and find something other then a TV tray to put our cable box on!
019
If you go to the right, there is a hallway that leads to a bedroom at the end of the hall, full bathroom on the left, storage on the right.
020
Basement bathroom. There is a shower to the right

Toy room! It actually looks way worse in there right now then in these pics. I unpacked boxes and the twins have been over twice this week and have had a heyday tearing the room apart.
023
Right when you come downstairs, there is a door behind you that leads down to another unfinished basement. Funny story, the people left an OLD TV hooked up in there and for whatever reason, the cable guy hooked one of our cable boxes up in there. So I guess now when we are pulling our x mas decorations, we can watch TV!
Now if you come in the front door and go upstairs, you see this!

Still want to stain all the wood, get new appliances and we are going to look for a kitchen table tomorrow. I think I am going to keep the paint color though.
Turn to your right and there is hallway with 2 bedrooms, linen closet and full bathroom. Staircase on the right goes up to our room.

Don’t you love the purple shower curtain and awful green paint? That blue paint in the guest room is nice too huh? Changing both!! Brown room will eventually be a nursery.
And lastly, go up yet another set of stairs and enter our room!! We just got the furniture today and our bedding hasn’t came in the mail yet so it’s pretty bare.

Toilet room to the left and other picture is our very long closet.
Now for the backyard…

They just did the deck so all we need is some deck furniture and to re seed the grass. I love our backyard. SOOO happy they left the playset for my daycare!
There you have it! Hope you enjoy our new home! I will keep you updated with all the updates we do. I am getting so many great ideas from pinterest!

Busy Busy

Last Friday we went to El Dorado for our nephew Paxton’s birthday party.  He turned 4 on Nov. 1 but my sister had his Rock N’ Roar party on Saturday. The party turned out so cute and it was the first year he invited kids from school so it was fun to see him interact with his friends.
novnov2nov3
After the party, we ate yummy food my brother in law smoked and watched the K-State game.  Even though we didn’t pull out a win, it was a good game and there was lots of cheering going on. My sister Amber, her family and my mom headed back to KC after the game but Derek and I stayed another night.  In the midst of telling them bye, we must have missed the shake of the earthquake that happened in Oklahoma. Darn!! People in El Dorado, Manhattan and KC all felt it! We had some drinks, watched TV and played a game that Paxton got for his birthday before calling it a night

After being kicked by Paxton all night (worlds worse sleeper), we left El Dorado early Sunday and headed to Galva for our niece Halle’s 4th birthday and party. She had an adorable Princess And The Frog birthday party complete with lots of girly presents. So glad she’s into barbies, dolls and pink. Makes shopping easy and fun! We didn’t stay too long because we still had a 2.5 hour drive home and we will be going back to Galva Thursday for the delivery of our new niece! We are watching our 2 nieces and nephew while their mom (Derek’s sister) has her 4th baby. We are sssoooo excited!

Wednesday we have our final walk through on our house, Thursday we close on it before heading back to Galva, we come back home Saturday and move in on Sunday! So yes, a very busy week but we can’t wait to move into our first home! Lots of pics to come after we get moved in!

Home Sweet Home

I've been trying to hold of making this official but we have told so many people and let's face it, i'm not good with secrets. Sooooo, on November 10 (as long as things keep going smoothly) Derek and I will close on our very 1st house! After looking at 20+ houses, we finally found the one that met all our requirements (which is a lot when your married to me wanting to become a licensed daycare provider ).  My amazing brother was our realtor so we had a ton of fun finding the perfect house with him. And because I want to remember these dates, here's what all went down.

September 8-Looked at house for the first time
September 9- Made offer
September 10- after a little countering, our offer was accepted and we were under contract!
September 19- Inspection. Only a few minor things needed fixed
September 22- Sellers agreed to fix all the things we asked

And that's where we stand right now. Now comes the hard part, finding all our W2's, bank statements, etc to give to our mortgage guy. Fingers crossed everything goes well and we will move into this house on November 13...
4 bedroooms, 3 baths and finished basement for daycare

The best part, they are leaving their wooden swing set in the backyard. Score!! Daycare kids will LOVE this!

#306

Tonight we handed over the keys and said goodbye to our first place in KC. It was a little sad pulling away just because we have so many memories there…
  • Sleeping on blankets the first night because we were too anxious to move in but the moving truck wasn’t coming till the next morning
  • Getting out second dog, Elsie Gurl
  • Having numerous sleepovers with all our nieces and nephews
  • Pool parties
  • Chasing the dogs who felt like they to greet all our neighbors
  • Decorating our first Christmas tree
  • Spending hours upon hours planning the wedding
  • First place we lived in after becoming Mr. and Mrs. Lorson
Goodbye #306

Now I don’t want to jinx myself or anything but it looks like well being having new place to call home in mid November Smile Stay tuned for more updates but I am getting sssooo excited for our first house! Time to start buying Christmas lights for the house. Sshhh don’t tell Derek!

3 months later...

and I am officially Mrs. Lorson :) They don't lie when they say the whole process of changing your name is a pain. After a visit to the social security place (30 min), the bank (30 min) and TWO trips to the drivers license place (a total of 3 hours) I think I have finally changed everything.  Don't worry, I didn't do all these in 1 day...more like 1 month.  Can anyone think of anything I am missing that still needs to be changed?

I'm so glad I can finally sign Sarah Lorson on everything without questioning whether I should put Long or Lorson. Until today, my drivers license said Long and I was worried if I wrote Lorson and they asked for my id, they'd be all confused. Now I just need to remember to not sign everything Sarah Long just out of habit!

House Hunters

House Hunters is one of my favorite shows and I am attempted to sign up for the show because we have officially started the search for our first house!!! We actually started about 2 weeks ago. Our lease isn’t up until November but my brother is a realtor so he has already set up a search for us that is updated daily with new houses in our price range and area we are looking at. We’ve already been approved for the price we were looking at and have gotten all the information on down payments, interests, etc.

We were lucky that they counted in Derek's commission checks and also accepted my Nanning job. They would like you to be working at the same place for 2 years but since my nanny job and Wichita job (family educator) are so similar, they excepted it. I am so relived that my nanny family was taking taxes out because we would have been screwed if I didn’t have a W2. Problem now…I don’t have a job! It makes no since to get a summer nanny job because the family more then likely wouldn’t take out taxes so it wouldn’t benefit us other then the money.  Derek called our financial guy yesterday and told him our situation and he said I needed to get my original nanny job back ASAP or have a good reason why I wasn’t working for them in the summer. We might have told a fib and told him the mom was a teacher Smile It seems as though this might work for a good reason as to why I’m not working.  Hopefully, the twins summer nanny gets this job she has a 2nd interview for and then I will get them back soon and we won’t have to go through writing a letter of excuse to the bank.

So there you have it. This is what we are up to nowadays. We both fell in love with a house today but need to wait another 2 months so we have a down payment and can hopefully just move in around October when our lease is almost up. We have our fingers crossed that this house will still be on the market! Out of 120 houses on our home search, we love 40 of them and 15 are possibilities. So either way, I don’t think we will have a problem finding a house. I’m loving this house shopping!
